Interpreting function graphs

Grade 12 graph questions combine several functions and test interpretation more than plotting.

• Points of intersection: set the two functions equal and solve.
• f(x) > g(x) means the graph of f is ABOVE the graph of g — read it off the sketch.
• The distance between two graphs at a value of x is f(x) − g(x).
• Maximum vertical distance is found by differentiating that difference.

• Point of intersection — where two graphs meet.
